Compare the2026 BMW X2VS 2026 Genesis GV80 Coupe

The BMW X2 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

With its standard Active Driving Assistant, the BMW X2 is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Genesis GV80 Coupe, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

Both the X2 and the GV80 Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The X2’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GV80 Coupe’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 61 percent more BMW dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X2’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Genesis is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 6 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

As tested in Motor Trend the X2 M35i xDrive is faster than the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid:

Regenerative brakes improve the X2’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The X2 offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The X2 stops much shorter than the GV80 Coupe:

The X2 xDrive28i’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV80 Coupe’s standard 50 series tires. The X2’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the GV80 Coupe 3.5 e-Supercharger’s 40 series tires.

The X2 has a standard space-saver spare (not available on M35i) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GV80 Coupe; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The X2 M35i xDrive handles at .86 G’s, while the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The X2 M35i xDrive executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger (26.1 seconds @ .72 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the X2’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the GV80 Coupe’s (38.4 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

The BMW X2 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1400 to 1450 pounds less than the Genesis GV80 Coupe.

The X2 xDrive28i is 1 foot, 4.2 inches shorter than the GV80 Coupe, making the X2 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The X2 is 5.2 inches narrower than the GV80 Coupe, making the X2 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

If the windows are left open on the X2 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV80 Coupe can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the X2 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The X2’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the GV80 Coupe’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the X2 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer cornering lights.
