The BMW X4 M has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. The X4 M’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG GLE Coupe.

Both the X4 M and the AMG GLE Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The X4 M’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the AMG GLE Coupe’s (12 vs. 5 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the X4 M for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG GLE Coupe.

Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes With 28 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks BMW higher than Mercedes.

The X4 M’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 44 more horsepower (473 vs. 429) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (457 vs. 413) than the AMG GLE 53 Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

For greater off-road capability the X4 M has a greater minimum ground clearance than the AMG GLE Coupe (8 vs. 7.5 inches), allowing the X4 M to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The X4 M Competition’s minimum ground clearance is .6 inch higher than on the AMG GLE Coupe (8.1 vs. 7.5 inches).

The BMW X4 M may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 650 to 1000 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG GLE Coupe.

The X4 M is 7.8 inches shorter than the AMG GLE Coupe, making the X4 M easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the X4 M’s rear seats recline. The AMG GLE Coupe’s rear seats don’t recline.

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the X4 M’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The AMG GLE Coupe doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The X4 M will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the X4 M will retain 54.4% of its original price after five years, while the AMG GLE Coupe only retains 47.85% to 52.56%.
