The i7’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW i7 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The i7 has standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the i7 and the Electrified G80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The BMW i7 weighs 597 to 1153 pounds more than the Genesis Electrified G80. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The i7’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the Electrified G80’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 61 percent more BMW dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the i7’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis With 10 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks BMW higher than Genesis.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 6 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The i7 eDrive50’s standard electric motor produces 84 more horsepower (449 vs. 365) than the Electrified G80’s electric motors. The i7 xDrive60’s standard electric motors produces 171 more horsepower (536 vs. 365) and 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (549 vs. 516) than the Electrified G80’s electric motors. The i7 M70’s standard electric motors produces 285 more horsepower (650 vs. 365) and 295 lbs.-ft. more torque (811 vs. 516) than the Electrified G80’s electric motors.

For better traction, the i7’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Electrified G80 (F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19).

The i7’s optional 255/40R21 front and 285/35R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Electrified G80’s 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the i7 offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Electrified G80’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The i7 offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the i7 uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Electrified G80, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The i7 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Electrified G80.

The i7 has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The i7’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the i7’s wheelbase is 8.1 inches longer than on the Electrified G80 (126.6 inches vs. 118.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the i7 is 1.4 inches wider in the front and .4 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Electrified G80.

The i7 xDrive60 handles at .93 G’s, while the Electrified G80 pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The front grille of the i7 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the i7 a Large car, while the Electrified G80 is rated a Mid-size.

The i7 has 11.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Electrified G80 (112 vs. 100.7).

The i7 has 2.7 inches more front shoulder room, 2 inches more rear headroom and 6.9 inches more rear legroom than the Electrified G80.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the i7’s available rear seats recline. The Electrified G80’s rear seats don’t recline.

The i7 has a larger trunk than the Electrified G80 (11.4 vs. 10.8 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the i7 easier. The i7’s trunk lift-over height is 28.5 inches, while the Electrified G80’s liftover is 30 inches.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Electrified G80, the i7 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The i7’s standard Comfort Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The i7’s optional power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the car. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a power rear door.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the i7 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The i7 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The i7 has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the i7 and the Electrified G80 offer available massaging front seats. The i7 also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the Electrified G80.

Both the BMW i7 and the Genesis Electrified G80 have a standard Qi wireless phone charging system in the front seat. To easily keep personal devices charged in the rear seat, without cables tangling and wearing out, the i7 also has a standard wireless charging system in the rear seat. The Electrified G80 does not.

The i7 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Electrified G80 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
