Compare the2025 BMW X5 MVS 2025 Lamborghini Urus

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the X5 M are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Urus doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The BMW X5 M has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Urus doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The X5 M has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the BMW X5 M achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Lamborghini Urus has not been tested.

The X5 M has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the X5 M and the Urus have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The BMW X5 M has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Urus has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2025.

The X5 M comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Urus’ 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

There are almost 9 times as many BMW dealers as there are Lamborghini dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X5 M’s warranty.

For better traction, the X5 M has larger front tires than the Urus (F:295/35R21 & R:315/30R22 vs. F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21). The X5 M Competition’s front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Urus (295/35R21 vs. 285/35R23).

The X5 M’s 295/35R21 front and 315/30R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Urus’ standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the X5 M has standard 22-inch rear wheels. Smaller 21-inch wheels are standard on the Urus.

The X5 M is 6.5 inches shorter than the Urus S, making the X5 M easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The X5 M has 1.1 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear headroom and 1.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Urus.

The X5 M has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Urus with its rear seat up (33.9 vs. 21.8 cubic feet). The X5 M has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Urus with its rear seat folded (72.3 vs. 56.4 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the X5 M’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Urus doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The X5 M’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Urus’ rear cargo window doesn’t open.

The X5 M has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Urus doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The X5 M’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Urus’ cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the X5 M has a standard rear wiper. The Urus doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The X5 M has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Urus.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the BMW X5 M has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The Urus doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The BMW X5 outsold the Lamborghini Urus by almost 36 to one during 2024.
